Peter Marigold's Bleed Cabinets

About

Sarah Myerscough Gallery is exhibiting Peter Marigold's new series of wardrobes and cabinets made using richly toned cedar wood with steel nails to join the planks. Through a chemical reaction, the steel from the nails bleeds into the wood yielding an exquisite painterly effect. Peter Marigold graduated from the Central Saint Martins arts college with a BA in Fine Art and Sculpture in 1997, and obtained his MA at the Royal College of Art, London, in Design Products in 2006. London based Peter Marigold made a name for himself as early as during his graduation show from the RCA. Since, he has received commissions to design installations, furniture, and products by important international clients, including Sony, Material ConneXion, Aram Gallery, Paul Smith, Okay Studio, and Li Edelkoort. In 2008 his "Mind Chair" was included in the exhibition "Design and the Plastic Mind" at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. In June of 2009, he was awarded the Designer of the Future Award by Design Miami. Recently he has shown at 21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and Design Museum Holon, Israel.
