AboutNames and concepts cover objects like a skin, they shape and deform them. The objects in Peter Köllerer's photo series Inner City (London) seem to be resisting this, their conceptual skins do not really fit them, they are somehow too straight and dissolve at some points. Inner City (London) is a journey into the spaces which emerge between concrete appearances and their designations.
By scanning the sensual surface of the city this journey leads into the inside of language and things. The funny, the uncanny, the beautiful and the ugly are different layers of this expedition into the âinner city'; the path is lined with mysterious signs, and the photographs in Köllerer's book invite us to decode them.
This collection of photographs was produced during a three month residency in London awarded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Culture and Arts. The book is produced with the support of the ACF London.
