An exhibition that promises to be a riot of colour with new work from renowned artists Peter Kettle and Michelle Scragg who have each taken inspiration from things that are very close to their heart.

About

Bristol-based Peter Kettle's new work is an ongoing project, walking segments of the Camrbrian Way, which links Cardiff Castle to Conwy Castle.  The 298-mile route tackles the highest peaks across the heartland of Wales.

The paintings from this particular series navigate through the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons, Doethie and Elan Valley and Mount Snowdon, featuring oil and mixed media works on canvas.  His painting approach incorporates the rugged wilderness of the landscape , using heavily layered oils and mixed media, splashed, scraped  and grouted into the canvases.

"I wanted to invoke the textures and architecture of the dry-stone walls that line and form the landscape, the swathes of fertile lands and ancient stone that tally the path.  There is no better calling, after a difficult year of periodic isolations, than the colour palette of deep veridian, hot ruddy cores and vibrant green apples that fill the scenes of the Cambrian Way.  These are the colours and the landscape that has lifted the soul".

And just as Peter speaks of the importance of colour, so too does Michelle Scragg whose work will alos be on display.

Michelle's work is abundantly colourful, with works including 'Road to Mumbles', 'Pink Girl' and 'Aysha'.

She says "Colour has become everything to me. Painting begins and ends only when the balance of colour is just right.  The interplay of light and dark, shape and space, such that each element of a picture is working in harmony, like words in a poem or notes in a symphony.

No matter what the subject I choose to paint, design takes over, forms are abstracted, shapes altered, colours heightened, until I am satisfied that each part of the composition works - space is as important as detail".
