About
Recognised as one of the leading exponents of figurative painting in Australia, Peter Churcher's work depicts our surrounding visual, sensory and emotional stimuli. In his latest series, Behind the Screen, opening at Michael Reid Berlin on 12th April, Churcher paints in astounding detail, the figure under water and behind the shower screen.
Having a fascination for physical beauty and human frailty, Churcher continuously explores the playing out of ritualised behaviour. His devotion to the great figurative masters such as Velasquez and Rembrandt is apparent across his oeuvre. Churcher's work is represented in many major public, corporate and private collections throughout Australia and overseas.
