Peter Blake and Pop Music

About

Sir Peter Blake (b.1932) has been closely linked with pop music since the 1950s. Not only has he painted images inspired by his musical heroes such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Bo Diddley but he has also worked closely with major British musicians and bands including Oasis, The Who and Eric Clapton to create some of the most distinctive album covers of the last 50 years. Most famously, of course, he created the iconic album cover for the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with the artist Jann Haworth. This major exhibition, timed to mark the artist's 80th birthday, draws on the extensive collection of British Pop Art at Pallant House Gallery and will feature major loans from public and private collections across the UK.
