About

The opening film programme of the Edge of Frame Weekend 2018 brings together a diverse selection of boundary-crossing independent and experimental animation from around the world, mixing brand new and recent work with classics and rarely-seen gems. From paper cut-outs to cutting edge digital animation, this programme displays the incredible ambition and vision of animated art.

The Edge of Frame Weekend 2018 is supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation, Royal College of Art, and using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Programme:

Extrapolate
Johan Rijpma

A line is extrapolated through a grid. When the line surpasses the boundaries of the grid, the process spreads to and reflects on its surroundings. Beyond each boundary the extrapolation of movement causes deformation in a systematic but speculative way.

Everything leaks at least a little.

Hold Me I’m Yours (EUROPEAN PREMIERE)

Darkness-Light-Darkness
Jan Švankmajer
Czechoslovakia 1989 7’
A satirical allegory on the process of evolution.

Eat Your Secrets (UK PREMIERE)
Jessie Mott and Steve Reinke

The fourth collaboration between Jessie Mott and Steve Reinke continues its melancholic musings on desire and mourning, this time with more twerking.

Warmth of Your Body Can Save Me
Lyudmila Severtseva
Russia 2016 1’32
“These frames were spontaneous, one a logical continuation of another. They look like my feelings, every feeling changes so quickly and is transformed in different ways.” – LM

The Lingerie Show
Laura Harrison

Drug-addict Lorraine and her boyfriend Caesar are having a nightmarish 24 hours until Lorraine calls up her sister, CiCi, for help.

A Long Dream
Hoji Tsuchiya
Germany 2017 4’25
A boy who lives in the city forgets that he is a bird, and has a long dream in a train heading to a construction site. A consideration of the parallel world which exists inside people and plants. Music video for Se So Neon.

Henry’s Kittens
Henry Waller and Amy Lockhart

A bird in the water and an ocean liner.

Set in Motion

Half asleep with my eyes closed, my conscience flies beyond time and space and I transform myself to all the life forms existing. I become the universe and the universe becomes me, until I fall asleep…. It is a song to pray for the existence of heart and soul at an awakening.
