Performers

About

There is a fascination for me, when someone performs.   They are demonstrating perhaps a skill or becoming another character outside of themselves.   I am attracted to the idea of a performer  'off-stage' as in 'Waiting in the Wings'.   There is a stillness that I have tried to capture in the moments before or after the performance.   Sometimes it is the energy or concentrated effort of the performance that I try to depict as in 'Conductor' or 'Tightrope Walker'.   The connection that I have made to masks seemed a natural one as the performers all have their 'masks' either physical or metaphorical as they face their audience.
