Thomas Goddard presents bonus content from his new video work, The word of mouse (grok your cornea gumbo), commissioned for the Survey exhibition.

About

Presented as a live DVD commentary, Goddard will translate the video in real time, providing additional context to the artist’s analysis of our modern day condition through a series of micro-fictions, all the while tussling with digital omnipresence.

This new performance builds upon recent works which take the form of a ‘self-interview’, a process which allows the artist to continually question and re-evaluate his point of view.

The word of mouse (grok your cornea gumbo) reflects on our social and psychological experience of the digital age. Using the tropes of the coming of age genre, Goddard combines archival moving and still images from popular culture with an original score, to consider our lives as inextricably linked with the digital world, for better or worse.

Thomas Goddard (b. 1980, Cardiff) lives and works in Cardiff. He received a BA in Fine Art Painting from University of Gloucestershire in 2004. Recent exhibitions and performances include Experimentica, Chapter, Cardiff (2017); Up-On Live Art Festival, Chengdu and Chongqing, China (2016); Testspace, Spike Island, Bristol (2016); Europa, Transition Gallery, London (2016); Uprisings, MOSTYN, Llandudno (2015). Recent residencies include URRA, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2017); Standpoint Futures, Standpoint Gallery, London (2015). Goddard’s work was chosen for Selected VI, a film programme selected by Jarman Award nominees which toured nationally and internationally (2016).
