About

Per Svensson’s (*1965 in Gothenburg, lives and works in Sweden) self-image as an artist is that of a researcher with special powers. His artistic work is more a free form of research that incorporates various techniques such as sculpture, film, drawing, sound and music and also opens up to spiritual disciplines of knowledge acquisition. In his alchemical installations, including audio and visual techniques, Svensson investigates the way nature creates organic, asymmetrical or even geometric structures and translates these findings into visual and sonic structures made of various materials such as wood, metal, paint and sound. The latter has almost sculptural qualities for the artist. Just as a sculpture changes for the eye from different perspectives, a sound changes for the ear depending on its position in space. A special place in Svensson’s creative process is taken by the basic principle of alchemy – an early precursor of our modern understanding of science with a special emphasis on the interplay of the elements and the formation of metals. For his exhibition at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, the artist is realising a new installation: an oversized plant hanging down from the ceiling and developing a full blossom above the floor plays music composed by Svensson himself into the room. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to enter a poetic sound space and linger there in contemplation.

Sound Compositions: Sculptural Alchemy 24:37, Poetry Drone 24:24, Recorded and mixed at Hansa Studios, Berlin, 2023, created for this exhibition, mixed in separate channels, sent out via 6 Loudspeakers / Soundsculptures to create an atmospheric multidimensional sound.
With kind support from the Senate Department for Culture and Europe – Department of Culture, IASPIS, the Embassy of Sweden in Berlin and Hansa Studios Berlin.
