Homeless People is an exhibition which uses art to delve beyond the ‘homeless’ label, in order to capture the diversity and individuality of the people behind the percentages.

About

Within society we are often presented with numbers and statistics regarding the issue of homelessness. In doing so, we are effectively reducing people to percentages and can create the impression that there is one group of ‘homeless people’. What’s more, popular depictions of ‘homeless people’ tend to either focus on substance misuse or dependence on charity. With statistics and stereotypes distorting public perceptions, it can be easy to forget that we are talking about real people, people like you and I, who have thoughts, feelings, ideas, fears, and aspirations.

Homeless People is an exhibition which uses art to delve beyond the ‘homeless’ label, in order to capture the diversity and individuality of the people behind the percentages. This exhibition has been put together by Bristol’s Pathway 1 1 and features artwork from residents and former residents of the Salvation Army and Second Step.

The focal point is entitled “Who am I?” and is a collaborative piece in which participants have used art to express who they are as individuals; it features work from current residents at Second Step, Places for People, the The Salvation Army Bristol – Community & Charity Shops, Self Help Housing Association, Elim Housing Association and Knightstone Housing Association.
