David Bramwell | Adventures in Everyday Magic

After a hundred-year-old moustache in a box was bequeathed to him by an eccentric aunt, David Bramwell undertook a ten-year adventure to discover the origins and meaning behind his singular inheritance. It was a journey that took him to séances, spiritual churches, ayahuasca ceremonies, strange cults and finally to meet Brighton’s most celebrated eccentric and former Dali model, Drako Zarhazar, who was mysteriously connected to his heirloom.

While drawing from his solo show The Haunted Moustache, Bramwell’s talk ventures deep into shamanism, psychedelia, placebo, totems and charms in an attempt to answer the question – what does magic mean to us in the 21st century?

David Bramwell is a broadcaster for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 and co-presenter for The Odditorium podcast. He is also the founder of Brighton’s Cheeky Guides and author of The No9 Bus to Utopia and The Haunted Moustache. His latest one-man show, The Cult of Water, ran for two sell-out nights Brighton Festival earlier this year. He is fascinated by the weird and mysterious and inspired by Ken Campbell’s approach to culture: ’I’m not mad, I’ve just read different books’.
