The show will focus on a series of works about tension and proximity. One body, the body, our bodies. Barbara revels in showing the complex intricacies of the body, its insides, its outer shell, its movement, shape, fluids.
As an architect and as a painter, the exploration of the ‘in-between’ space is essential to her work. Lonely figures fighting on the canvases, wrestlers and dancers are circling each other, caught in between attraction and repulsion of the Other. That balance, that tenuous tipping point where one’s singularity starts being in conflict with one’s gregarious nature is at the core of Barbara’s work.
Emptiness cannot be constructed in the same way as happiness, intimacy, harmony or silence. It only exists thanks to the existence of other components. It is a breath which roams though bodies and spaces. The paintings here presented are an ode to the “living together” through silence and the presence of the other.
