Paula Malherbe is a Berlin based artist and Kundalini yoga teacher. Her artistic method is influenced by her yogic practise. Letting go of the perfect picture, the artist discovered new techniques and the joy of painting without thinking.
About
Paula Malherbe is an artist and Kundalini yoga teacher. She is originally from South Africa and studied Fine Arts at the Witwatersrand Technikon in Johannesburg.Paula has been practising Kundalini Yoga for the past 16 years and teaching for the past 4 years. Gradually her yogic practise has influenced her method of painting. She has discovered the joy of painting without thinking, trusting in the creative energy inherent in us all. Paula believes that the Kundalini Energy sitting in each and every human is our creative potential and when we allow this energy to activate we start to experience our true potential.
The current exhibition is gouache on paper, painted 90% with hands. Painting through spontaneity, letting her hands become the tool, the artist allows her creativity to flow without pre-planning and preconceived ideas. It is a process, which taps into the subconscious and can sometimes represent archetypes of the unconscious. This method of painting taught Paula to let go of the idea of painting a perfect picture, which moved her in the direction of discovering fresh, more intuitive techniques and most importantly teaching her to trust the process and move out of self-criticism.
