For this end-of-year exhibition, Australian artist Paul Yore brings together quilted textiles, a suite of needlepoint pieces and a spectacular suspended soft sculpture. Across the various fabric surfaces Yore’s cacophony of loaded visuals, emblems and texts embedded within the compositions speak directly to national discourse and identity with the inclusion of the map of Australia, images of superimposed threatening skulls and statement texts that read: “THIS IS NOT THE END”, “TRUTH ISNT TRUTH”, “LET THE WORLD BURN” and “GOD IS DEAD”. Again, the artist appeals to his audience to decipher such open-ended proclamations. A variety of readings ensue. Is this irony, humour, despair, or, all of the above?
