About
Alison comes from a long line of coal miners and seamstresses. She could sew before she could read, a talent that can be seen in her intricate stitching. Aye uses free papers and detritus found on her commute, sewing cut out images rather than gluing. Recording the stories behind the materials she uses is an important part of her process as is crediting the photographers who took the original imsges.
Themes of class and the unfair distribution of wealth feature heavily in her work, as do politics and humour.
