The Belgian-Cameroon artist Pascale Marthine Tayou invites us to enter his universe of mythical creatures and mysterious apparitions. His monumental works are colourful, yet at the same time they broach the major issues of the day.
About
Step into the universe of mythical creatures and mysterious apparitions of Belgian Cameroon artist Pascale Marthine Tayou. The exhibition BOOMERANG reveals Tayou’s monumental work of colourful linen, organic materials, wood, crystal figures and found objects. With his works, the artist address the ways in which we develop a national, geographic, financial and emotional identity in times of mass consumption. Tayou constantly draws similarities and differences between the many cultures and communities he has lived and worked among, and challenges us to do the same. Julia Peyton-Jones, Director of the Serpentine Galleries in London, with Co-Director and Curator Hans Ulrich Obrist have said about Tayou’s work: "His ingeniously crafted creations are imbued with a strange and alluring magic that has the power to bind us all".
