Paris Fragments is a series of collages inspired by the poem “Liberté” by Paul Eluard, written during World War II in occupied Paris.

About

Susan visited Paris in 2010 to find a connection to Eluard’s poem. Her Paris adventure included visiting Notre-Dame, the Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation, as part of a World War II guided walk, Shakespeare and Company bookshop and walking in some of the boulevards. The outcome of this endeavour is a series of mixed media collages, comprised of fragments of the artist’s own photographs, drawings, paintings and poems. Susan sees her collages both as a narrative of her stay in Paris and as a small tribute to Paul Eluard’s masterpiece.
