A special live event curated by Goshka Macuga with Ansuman Biswas, inspired by the famous meeting of Tagore and Einstein

About

A performance by Goshka Macuga in collaboration with Ansuman Biswas as part of Iniva's exhibition Tagore's Universal Allegories. Working with the interdisciplinary artist and musician Ansuman Biswas, Goshka Macuga has conceived an event based on the famous conversation ‘On the nature of reality' that took place between poet Rabindranath Tagore and scientist Albert Einstein at Einstein's house near Berlin in 1930, a transcript of which is on display in the exhibition. Transposing this conversation from words to music, the event will include an exchange between musicians using a range of instruments exploring the various sounds that they produce, as well as a juxtaposition of musical styles from different cultural sources. The artists: Goshka Macuga is an interdisciplinary artist working across a variety of media, including sculpture, installation, photography, architecture and design. The Polish-born artist now lives and works in London. She has exhibited widely across Europe and America including dOCUMENTA (13) and solo shows at Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2011), Kunsthalle Basel (2009), and Tate Britain, London (2007).In 2008 she was nominated for the Turner Prize. Ansuman Biswas was born in Calcutta and trained in the UK. He now has an international practice encompassing music, film, live art, installation, writing and theatre. He is interested in hybridity and interdisciplinarity, often working between science, art and industry, for instance, or between music, dance and visual art.
