The Riverside Gallery at Farnham Maltings is delighted to present the contemporary paper and textile work of Lucy Dorothy.
About
Interested in taking a playful look at the boundaries between paper and cloth, this exhibition is an eclectic mix of embroidered texts, thread sketches and paper clothing.
Lucy’s textile pieces seek to resemble paper pages torn from Victorian cookbooks and etiquette guides. They pay particular homage to Jelly, the wonderfully wobbly centerpiece of any well respected Victorian dining table. Mono prints and watercoloured fabric have replaced the coloured engravings, whilst the texts have been reimagined using free hand machine embroidery, resembling hand drawn fonts.
In contrast to her textile work, Lucy has swapped fabric for paper to create a series of sculptural dresses. Carefully cut tissue paper has been stitched together to form delicate daywear, whilst reclaimed papers have been stitched, pinned and folded to become elegant eveningwear.
