An exhibition of paintings interpreting stories, poems, myths and folklore.

About

Jacqueline paints, writes poetry and makes music. Her work explores the figure and its relationship to space, but boundaries and walls have also become a recent obsession. Whilst generally working on small scale canvases, she also likes the freedom of movement and gesture afforded by larger surfaces. For Jacqueline, all of life is food for her art and she describes her work as an expressive reaction to, and an imaginative interpretation of, the environment and events around her. However, stories, poems and folklore also play an important part in her creativity and each of the myths and legends she works with, comes alive in the texture of her brushwork and in the assemblage of balanced colours. In the connections she makes between nature, Greek myth and the deeper, often vulnerable emotions of the human condition, Jacqueline’s paintings are often raw in colour and emotion but nevertheless, are not without humour or empathy. She has many influences, including the Dutch Masters, Abstract Expressionism and the paintings of Karel Appel.
