About

Paintings and Pots — a joint exhibition in Tenby. A joint exhibition of paintings by Pembrokeshire artist John Faulkner and pottery by the celebrated Carmarthenshire based potter Mick Morgan will show in Tenby in October. Exploring his fascination with the effects of time, weather and use on older buildings, John ( one of the gallery partners) has produced 50 paintings depicting cottages, hamlets, barns and farms from images and memories of walks through remote areas of Wales and round his home town of Tenby. Using acrylic paint on canvas or board, sometimes with ink, the paintings are often highly textured, looking as aged as the dwellings themselves. In some of the larger paintings the subject occupies the middle ground and a more detailed style is used. Townscapes of Pembrokeshire, remote Spanish houses and some coastal scenes complete the exhibition. Mick Morgan, Carmarthenshire potter, brings 60 unique raku fired ceramics. Plain, textured or decorated with daisies, dots, faces and patterns, burnished to a soft gleam, shiny with glaze or smoothly ‘naked', the pots range from palm size bowls to small expressive Spanish dancer forms and imposing three feet tall ‘figures' with definite personalities. Mick has occupied and worked at Talog for over 30 years and in addition to producing work for galleries he teaches at Carmarthen and Cardiff Art Schools and runs an annual workshop in France as well as contributing to special exhibitions and undertaking private commissions. Whereas his domestic ware, from tiny jugs to huge bread crocks and serving dishes, has shown in the gallery for some years, this new body of decorative work has been specially made and selected. The exhibition will run from 1st to 28th October at the White Lion Street Gallery in Tenby. The gallery, next to the old cinema, is open every day except Wednesday from10am till 5pm. The entire exhibition may be viewed on the gallery website: www.artmatters.co.uk and further information obtained by telephone: 01834-843375.
