About
Join artist Maggie Cochran for an expressive mixed media workshop that explores the feeling of being in the landscape. Capture the light, the colours, the mood, the weather and the sense of being in the beautiful Bullclough landscape in the Peak District.
This course will encourage you to work in a loose expressive manner with the focus on capturing a sense of the landscape. It is about a response to being in that landscape.
You will work both outdoors and inside the studio doing studies and working these up to paintings, taking an experimental approach and embracing happy accidents.
During the 3 days Maggie will share her working methods and colour palettes with you, demonstrating and sharing tips and techniques and guiding you in your own painting. She will talk about her work and her influences, including artists who have inspired her.
Weather permitting, mornings will mostly be spent outdoors in the grounds of Bullclough gathering reference material, sketching and doing preparatory studies. The afternoons will then be spent in the studio working from these studies. The afternoons will end with a short review of the day’s work.
You will be encouraged to think about light, tone, texture, composition and colour.
The teaching of this course will be tailored to the individual and include one to one and group tuition. You will have the opportunity to play with a variety of tools, paints, techniques and scale throughout the course.
The workshop is suitable for beginners both to acrylics and painting. It will also suit more experienced painters who would like to work in a looser and more expressive way.
