- Watercolour painting techniques using watercolours, watercolour paper and various brushes and tools.
- Acrylic painting techniques using various paper based surfaces including prepared surfaces and collaged surfaces.
- Mixed media techniques using paints, inks and mediums on paper and prepared surfaces.
- How to choose a colour palette and mix colours.

Course outline for Painting from Photographs Workshop
Morning activity
- Zarina will introduce the aims and content of the workshop.
- The group will begin with watercolour painting.
- Zarina will demonstrate step by step, the use of watercolour painting and talk about; paper, palette, mixing colour, creating tone and content using various creative techniques and using a variety of tools.
- The group will paint along, completing all the painterly tasks.
- Zarina will explain how to evaluate the created works and what makes a good painting.
- The group will have opportunities during the session to ask questions and evaluate each other’s work.
Afternoon activity
- Zarina will demonstrate step by step, the use of Acrylic paints and inks and the art of mixed media painting.
- Zarina will talk about; surface, palette, mediums, and various creative techniques using a variety of tools.
- The group will paint along, completing all the painterly tasks using a variety of surfaces including pre-prepared surfaces.
- Zarina will explain how to evaluate the created works and what makes a good painting.
- The group will have opportunities during the session to ask questions and critique each others work.
- At the end of the session there will be a group critique.
Materials and equipment required by workshop students
- Thin rubber gloves to protect hands
- Apron or an old shirt (to protect clothing)
- Paper, Paints and mediums (optional)

- Photographs of landscapes to paint from
- Examples of work.
- Sugar paper.
- Paper including prepared surfaces.

Methods of assessing outcomes
- The groups completion of a range of paintings
- Evaluation and discussion of individual students work during the session with Zarina and the other workshop students.
- Completion of the evaluation form.
