About
Marion Scott Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition featuring the expressions of six artists from three different northern Canadian communities. Opening July 18 and continuing through August 15, Outsiders: Inuit Masters brings together works in a range of two- and three-dimensional media by some of the Arctic’s most distinguished artists.
Although well known to the Inuit art world, the six featured artists—John Kavik, Thomassie Kudluk, Elizabeth Nutaraaluk Aulatjut, Françoise Oklaga, Bessie Scottie Iquginnaaq and Annie Taipanak—each maintained a practice that developed in some measure independently of local and regional artistic traditions, producing idiosyncratic works that compel and startle us with their originality.
Powerful in their singularity, the different bodies of works in the exhibition are united by a common directness of expression and an unconventional approach to technique and material usage.
