West Dean College of Arts and Conservation recently partnered with Outside In to deliver a training course to artists who find it difficult to access the art world
About
for reasons including health, disability, social circumstance or isolation. The project, called 'Step Up: Exploring Collections', worked with six artists who each took inspiration from the West Dean Collection and Archive.
During the project, each artist selected an object from the West Dean Collection and Archive which they used as a starting point to develop their research skills, creating new and innovative interpretations that use the Collection as a point of departure to explore their own ideas and concerns. Their approach to the work is intelligent, dynamic, poetic, exciting and informed by the legacy of West Dean and the rich history of the artists represented in the Collection.
This talk celebrates the end of the project, with contributions from the artists, plus representatives from Outside In and the Collections Team at West Dean College. Visitors will also be able to view an exhibition of the work made during the project in the College's Foyer Gallery.
