Armi works intuitively, sometimes quiet, thoughtful and monochromatic, sometimes with an irresistible zing of neon and energy. Layering and joining translucent and natural printed fabrics, paper and plant material to give her work an ephemeral quality. Linen, cotton, wool and paper obtained from recycled manufacturing waste, is carefully selected and used as a base onto which she mono prints, screen mono prints, stitches and draws, often including foraged plant material, porcelain impressed pieces, wood, and metal.
Armi’s work is tactile and invites closer inspection to enjoy the borrowed wonders of nature, the detail, the textures, the closely observed pattern and colour. She also makes artists books as a way of collating her many explorations and samples.
Out of the Woods comes to the Maltings as part of a celebration of Textiles as we welcome back our annual festival Thread for it's ninth year.
