About

Dr. Francis Gooding is the Director of the MA in Film Curating at the London Consortium. He worked as an author and researcher on the Colonial Film: Images of the British Empire project (www.colonialfilm.org.uk), during which time he focussed his research on amateur film, missionary film, and films of Palestine and Aden. He teaches modern art history at Birkbeck, and has written widely on art, music and film. His talk ‘Out of the Archive: a case study from Mandate Palestine' will reference his recent work providing historical context for, and analysis of British Colonial Office films from the British Mandate period in Palestine. He will also screen Portrait of Palestine (1947, 16 mins), a British film of Palestine dating from the very end of the Mandate period.
