In the month before the Olympic Launch, OUR SITES depicts the lives of Gypsies and Travelers in 2004 when thirty-five families from two council run Travelers' sites, in Newham and Hackney, were just finding out they would have to move. Both sites were needed for the Olympics and it would be over 3 years until suitable land was found and they were finally relocated.
OUR SITES captures a moment in time - caught by young Travelers who were given cameras to record life on and around the sites on Waterden Crescent in Hackney and an unauthorized site near Stratford. It offers a rare insight into their lives, on the brink of huge changes.
OUR SITES was an On Site Arts project funded by Arts Council England and supported by London Gypsy and Traveler Unit. The pictures and words are the Travelers' own.
