ABOUT OTHER WORLDS
Masters Art courses are concerned with deepening understanding within the broader conversation, whilst developing individual voices. This year’s students offer us a dilemma: there is a sense that Cass MA artists are opening the door to other worlds, suggesting possibilities that reach beyond the status quo and in so doing they reveal common ground regarding their sensibilities; however, the ways in which these concerns are manifested display a diverse range of approaches to art so that in this show you will find images of pure colour, images suggesting outer space, Iranian mythic symbols, mysterious objects and stories born out of enforced migration but also to enter “Disco Termini”.
The MA at the Cass in the centre of London’s East End provides an urgent lens to look at developments in art in what has been a tumultuous, and at times a painful, year with terrorist incidents and the Grenfell Tower fire. The discussions with students have been about uncertainty and Art’s response to what students have termed a ‘discombobulating’ time.
