Hand-painted movie posters have almost disappeared in India. But in the heart of Mumbai lives Sheikh Rehman, the city’s last such artist.
His studio is behind the screen of a crumbling old cinema, where he serves as an artist, guru, comedian, and philosopher. But Rehman’s world is at risk. Today’s film posters are cheaply printed by machine on plastic, and theater audiences are dwindling. Original Copy is a celebration of the handmade, and of the profound social function that cinema provides. (2015, 95 min, digital)
