An exhibition on glass by Johanne Lykke and Nina Elizabeth

About

Orangery Delights presents two large-scale glass paintings by the Danish artist, Johanne Lykke and Danish/Mexican artist, Nina Elizabeth, both based in Copenhagen.

The format of the orangery showcases the duality of inner and outer spaces, inviting sunlight and atmospheric conditions indoors. Through an installation of transparent glass paintings, the artists highlight the transience of the space and infuse the atmosphere with vibrant colour. Inspired by the sensorial qualities of the orangery, Elizabeth showcases a large-scale landscape, whilst Lykke constructs a fragmented flower.

Individual works:

Sky Bloom, 2020
Glass paint
400 x 355 cm

Lykke examines the relationship between the concrete and the abstract in nature. Using a variety of botanical-inspired shapes, she has constructed an oversized fragmented floral motif referencing several tropical flowers such as; hibiscus, orchid, flamingo lily and bird-of-paradise. By exaggerating the scale of the flower, Lykke aims to elevate nature to a higher state. Confronting the viewer with a towering vision of the natural world, her work acts as a gesture, a cultivation of the poetic potential of flowers and a transmission of the sensitivity and sublime in nature.

Nina Elizabeth
The Golden Warmth of a Distant Land, 2020
Glass paint
370 x 220 cm

Elizabeth is interested in creating a bridge between geographies near and far. Investigating the chronicles of citrus fruit, she reintroduces a warm atmosphere into the orangery, alluding to their tropical and subtropical origins. In her painting she presents an abstracted landscape in orange, red and yellow, influencing the light as it enters the space. The work facilitates the experience of a space that is neither here nor there, but a unique fusion of the two - a space analogous to dreaming and memory, a space between.
