Duck or rabbit? Old crone or beautiful woman. The games the mind and eye can play are notorious. And then there's muscle memory. Are de Kooning's last paintings (made while supposedly of unsound mind) invalid? Someone has certainly decided they have less 'value' on the art market? Or are they just the most beautiful things he has ever produced? Is there a duality? A contradiction? Or is it just where you start from? Well I wouldn't start from here...
'But we cannot cling
to the old dreams anymore
no we cannot cling
to those dreams
Does the body rule the mind
or does the mind rule the body?
I dunno...'
