About
Elizabeth’ brings the boldness of her stroke and colour to a city that is as vibrant and multi-layered as her own work. The large formats enhance her approach to abstraction with her unique expressionistic and gestural style, while the vertical ones recall Asian scroll paintings.
As the viewer will be able to see in this series, the high-keyed primaries and secondary complementary colours are tweaked in various directions to create a strong contrast with the more low-saturated organic backgrounds. The splatters of paint evolve in upwards explosions that expand in the canvases creating movement within the forms and volumes created.
Elizabeth’s paintings blend elements of landscape and figuration punctuate the bright pours of colour and stories can almost be plucked out of the swirls of paint. portraying a recognisable historical genre like abstract expressionism.
A must see show at Old Brompton Gallery 2015.
