The Fruitmarket Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of work from the last two years of the Gallery's Opt in for Art education programme. The programme aims to engage children and young people aged 7'18 years old with contemporary art through the Gallery's changing exhibition programme.Opt in for Art features drawings, films, animations, installations, sculptures and objects produced by children and young people during a range of projects and workshops. The young people have been involved in all aspects of the preparation for this exhibition, from making the artwork to installation and marketing of the show.
Highlights from this exhibition include a metropolis made from bourbon and custard cream biscuits, a podcast of a political refugee's arrival in the city of Edinburgh, a large scale woollen sculptural intervention by primary schoolchildren and large-scale comic drawings mapped out on the walls. The artworks by the children and young people have taken inspiration, and responded to the Gallery's exhibition programme through practical workshops and projects.
