Laura Rathe Fine Art announces Chromatopia, an exhibition featuring new works by Mike Hammer, Katherine Houston, and Jane Waterous.

About

Chromatopia introduces a kaleidoscopic world of pigments and textural intrigue. In their individual practices, Mike Hammer, Katherine Houston, and Jane Waterous bring their unique interpretations of color as a medium to this collaborative presentation. These artists push the limits of geometry and form to introduce new chromatic expressions.

Mike Hammer creates his ‘blob’ paintings by meticulously pouring acrylic paint into concentric rings that build into miniature color studies, resulting in unique and vibrant interplays across the panel. Hammer’s liberal use of materials result in a relief sculpture of glossy and bold designs.

By reverse-painting acrylic objects, Katherine Houston manipulates the relationships between hues and pushes the identity of the spectrum. Through carefully designed compositions, Houston maps a conversation of color, casting reflections of multichromatic light throughout the space.

Jane Waterous is best known for her Gatherings series, a reflection of human connection and celebration of the human spirit. Each painting uses three dimensional figures that appear to dance in a synergistic halo of light, depth, pigment, and action, literally and figuratively jumping off the canvas. While each work conveys a unique emotional experience, they all share a feeling of joy and wonderment.
