This first significant survey of the respected Pasadena-based artist’s work comprises playful and witty ceramics that tackle issues ranging across the housing crisis, internment camps, and human-induced species loss.

About

Los Angeles ceramist-provocateur Joan Takayama-Ogawa has been creating singular sculpture and functional objects for three decades. She conveys her candid and prophetic take on the key issues that are eroding our society and contemporary life as we know it in vivid color. Through beauty, pattern, whimsicality, and dark humor, her ceramics shed light and raise awareness. Takayama-Ogawa tackles social and political issues ranging from gun violence in schools, American political corruption, health care inequalities during the pandemic, Japanese American Internment camps, and climate change.
