AboutArchitrope presents Paradise at CABINet project space.
The city is often portrayed as the negative other to the pastoral idyll, a fall from the intimacy of nature into the chaos of civilisation and language. Paradise questions this reading of the city. Juxtaposing the spontaneity of the street photographer with the precision of the architectural photograph, a series of deceptively familiar images of junctions, shop fronts, advertising billboards and quiet suburban streets are presented. Key signifiers are reduced or eliminated completely, accentuating the city as a simple material presence and event. Signs become simple blocks of colour and the city becomes more expressive without its bylines; an alternate âparadise found.'
Paradise will open at 6:30pm at CABINet, Fairchild's Park, Hackney Road, London E2 8ET.
