For sete-estrelo, his first solo exhibition at Monitor Lisbon, Daniel V. Melim will present a new body of works on different wooden objects : from bed bead-headboards, chessboards to plain wood foils. Through the use of an often lightened up and vivid colour pallette, Melim repurposes this wooden objets trouvés and turns their surfaces into open windows through which we can access his visual imaginary. Ancient nativity figures, landscapes of his homeland, natural elements and clay sculptures compose what the artist refers to as  “images of construction” or “images to serve”. In these works, Melim articulates a plethora of references and stories coming from different fields of knowledge, to paint images that are intended to have a transformative potential in the viewer. In fact, each image in the show plays a part in a meticulously crafted narrative that acknowledges the existence of a powerful and mysterious intelligence that no discipline can define.
