It's back! After last year's extravaganza of demonstrations, and our festive Winter Show, Kingsgate is opening our doors again for the Open Studios 2017!

About

The eclectic makers, designers, artists and more at Kingsgate open their studios to show you how they create their work, offer you beautiful arts and crafts for sale direct from the maker, and share their skills with you in our fantastic activities programme.

Inside our charming Victorian factory turned labyrinthine artists' studios, over 75 artists, makers and designers will be there to welcome visitors.

Opening Party – Friday 23rd June 7pm-9pm
Come along on the Friday night to nose around the studios, pick up a goody bag, and celebrate with a glass of champagne.

VIP Curator's Tour at Opening Party - £15 per person, Friday 23rd June 6.30pm
For an extra special experience and a sneak peek at the studios before they open to the general public, book a ticket for the VIP Curators Tour for £15 per person. You'll get to see the highlights of our contemporary artists and hear about their work from acclaimed curator Dan Howard Birt, who also happens to be our Director.

Taster Workshops

We're putting together a packed programme of taster workshops for you to try your hand at –there’s everything from ceramics to textile printing on offer:

  • Ink Painting with Joy Gerrard
  • Textiles Printing with Victoria Umansky
  • Printmaking with Theresa Pateman
  • Musical Instrument Making for Families with Alan Johnson
  • Arm Knitting with Rose Sharp Jones
  • Create a Cup and Ceep it for a Cuppa with Josie Warshaw
  • Throwing Ceramics with Chris Bramble & Freya Bramble Carter
  • Stitching with Richard McVetis
  • Pom Poms with Rose Sharp Jones

Letters & Markers Drop In Family Activity with Neringa Dastoor & The London Festival of Architecture

Letters & Markers a drop-in drawing-on-textiles workshop which will travel through multiple locations in June 2017 and result in a collaboratively created wall-hanging. Led by artist Neringa Dastoor, it includes visiting guest talks at each location. Kingsgate Workshops is pleased to host it during the Open Studios weekend, and we invite everyone to come and add to the piece. It’s free, suitable for all ages, and all materials will be provided.

Letters & Markers is part of the London Festival of Architecture 2017, with this year’s theme ‘memory’.

Bespoke Artist - Led Tours
Got a special interest in ceramics? Looking to buy a special piece of jewellery made personally for you? Book a place on one of our free Bespoke Artist-Led Tours and we'll show you around, helping you find exactly what you're looking for.

Demonstrations
We'll be showing you the secrets behind the pieces of art with demonstrations throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for the final programme!

Shop
You'll be able to buy direct from the makers in the studios, use our card payment facility for larger purchases, and get a free Kingsgate tote bag with every purchase over £20.

Refreshments
Kingsgate Community Centre Lounge Café will be providing delicious refreshments in our flowering garden courtyard.
