OPEN SOURCE will showcase time-based media and live events that engage with mainstream and online cultures, highlighting art as a collaborative process.

Throughout the weekend, the festival will present films, live performances and installations, including twenty-four works that will be shown for the first time.

There will be an immersive video installation; experimental party music; a hip-hop concert; twitter broadcasts; films dealing with the neuroses caused by media over-exposure, shifting meanings, extra-sensory communication and language recognition programmes; a magic carpet; a time travel vessel; alienated bodies and paranormal activity.

OPEN SOURCE is curated by Emily Butler, Gareth Bell-Jones, Marie d’Elbée, Attilia Fattori Franchini, Anna Gritz, Morgan Quaintance, Chris Rawcliffe and Amy Sherlock.
OPEN SOURCE presents works by Larry Achiampong, Majed Aslam, Anna Barham, Behind the X, David Blandy, Eloise Bonneviot, Tereza Buskova, Ben Cain, Lucy Clout, Simon Davenport, Marie d’Elbée, Gery Georgieva, Emilie Gervais, Patrick Goddard, Mary Hurrell, Alice Khalilova, Leslie Kulesh, Hannah Lees, Lawrence Lek, Louisa Martin, Jimmy Merris, Shana Moulton, Berry Patten, Pallavi Paul, Heather Phillipson, Pro Numb, Morgan Quaintance, Shirin Sabahi, Erica Scourti, Alice Theobald, Alden Volney and Lucy Woodhouse.

OPEN SOURCE will also present Frieze Video, showcasing film essays, interviews and studio visits with artists.

OPEN SOURCE is inspired by programs in which the source code is available to the public for development and modification, highlighting a broader culture of data sharing in which new forms are built through collective knowledge.

OPEN SOURCE also refers to the way the project was conceived – as an open invitation to the curators to develop a collective programme – and to its location in Gillett Square, a public space which is open to many different kinds of projects.
