About
HUGO GALERIE is pleased to present "Onírica," a solo exhibition featuring the gossamer worlds of Federico Infante. His canvases resonate with a haunting beauty, like the echo of a recurring dream.
Despite the floating figures, gauzy backgrounds, and otherworldly atmosphere, there is something disarmingly real about Infante’s art. Like déjà vu. The works’ familiarity is rooted in their emotional charge. They are not paintings of fantasies or apparitions, but memories and feelings. Infante’s description, “images that narrate the path I take between my subconscious and the world I see,” gives a glimpse into their spirituality. These dreamscapes are not random or superficial flights of fancy, but bloom from someplace deep within—from the fear, hope, and joy that are the very building blocks of the human condition.
Infante paints with his mind’s eye. His works are at once deeply personal and widely accessible by the very nature of our shared humanity. This dichotomy does not result in a closed subject but art that is open with possibility. Every canvas is the beginning of something. Its timbre changes, its meaning fluctuates, and its connotation flexes with each experience. Defining the significance of an Infante painting is impossible—like capturing an emotion without having felt it or evoking a dream having never dreamt; each piece’s interpretation varies not only from viewer to viewer, but also for viewers throughout their lives. Infante’s artwork accommodates and reflects our lives as we live them, feel them, and imagine them.
