With Reza Afisina and Iswanto Hartono, members of the artists’ collective ruangrupa, artistic direction of documenta fifteen in Kassel
What is the character of Western economic and social thinking? In the face of unequal global power relations and pressing political, social, and ecological challenges, interest in alternative forms of knowledge and action is growing. The Lumbung concept of the Jakarta-based artist collective ruangrupa is based on the principle of a communally used rice barn. At its core is a sustainable, social way of working and the mutual support of all participants. In the live online talk, Reza Afisina and Iswanto Hartono discuss the connections between artistic, social, and economic issues and the potential of the Lumbung concept, which they will use as a basis for documenta fifteen in Kassel in 2022.
The discussion series “From Thinking to Acting” begins in OPEN SPACE on November 12, 2021 and continues on five selected Sundays. The topics were formulated in discussions with representatives of various social groups in Düsseldorf, including local environmental initiatives and migrant-led organizations. The Talks offer an opportunity to discuss important topics of the present and future with experts from various professional fields.
