In this new body of work, there is a keen sense of witnessing a snapshot of action, and the use of strong broken brushstrokes provide an urgent sense of movement. As we follow these characters in motion on their journey through the playful and humorous gaze of Ofomata, we are led to witness the events that happen during their journey to a destination. At times, Ofomata’s subjects seem to freeze in motion, like taken by an urge to reflect on their actions and on their own self.
Okey Ofomata (b. 1997) is a Los Angeles-based contemporary artist known for his energetic and allegorical works. He is currently studying Fine Art and Animation at Mt. San Antonio College in Los Angeles, CA. In the past, Ofomata has shown works at Aziz Gallery (LA), Prizm Art Fair (Miami), Joyce Gordon Gallery (Oakland). He has also collaborated with various musicians, such as MIKE and Young Morpheus.
