An artistic journey that includes a permanently searching and open artistic practice, although at the same time it has clear directions and fixed points. On the one hand the whole world, a vast chaos – on the other hand clear structures and procedures.

While Jessica Backhaus photographically transforms everyday objects and spatial situations into poetic images, Gabriele Künne experiments with the constructive and associative possibilities of surface and form in ceramic sculpture.
Both the photographs from the series „Symphony of shadows“ and the ceramic objects from the series „Best Friends_2“ play with the mechanisms of perception and provide the viewer with a variety of associations. In Jessica Backhaus's work, apparently unimportant things such as pipes and clotheslines are given an abstract quality by the choice of image detail, colour, and the emphasis on light and shadow, which, while still recognizable, at the same time makes things appear emblematic and engrossed. Gabriele Künne's abstract objects, on the other hand, do not come from any representational world. The folded, compressed and thrown surfaces and forms deal with the question of planning, including processual articulation and destruction.

By confronting these two positions, this exhibition opens a window to a contemporary sensual vocabulary of colours, forms and materials.
