A documentary and a political act, a real and fantastic story, On the Bride’s Side challenges our perception of migration, asylum seekers, and borders, transforming masses into people and numbers into names.

A Palestinian poet and an Italian journalist met five Palestinians and Syrians in Milan, fleeing the Syrian war, and decided to organize a fake wedding to help them complete their journey to Sweden to ask for political asylum. From Milan to Stockholm, the wedding cortege crossed Europe over a four day journey of three thousand kilometers with a friend dressed up as the bride and a dozen wedding guests. This journey brings out the stories, hopes and dreams of the five refugees and their rather special “traffickers”, and reveals a transnational, supportive and irreverent Europe that rejects and ridicules the laws and restrictions on immigration and defends people’s right to travel. Following the screening of the film, there will be a panel discussion on the concepts of borders, migration and the aesthetic of the frontier.
