ON REPEAT brings together a group of nationally and internationally recognised contemporary artists whose works variously explore how digital technology, the internet, and social media are transforming our experience of looking, and our relationship to images, objects and ideas.
In this multi-layered and multi-media exhibition, explorations of Greco-Roman mythology and the motifs of Rococo ornamentation sit alongside experiments in high and low technology, with 3D printing and Victorian illusionary techniques all on display. Examining the difference between ‘fast’ and ‘slow looking’, and the difference between looking and seeing, this exhibition also considers what we gain and lose in this era of the readily produced and reproduced image.
A selection of historical works from Grundy Art Gallery’s Collection and the Lytham St. Annes Art Collection are also included. Punctuating the exhibition, these works provide historical reference points for some of the thematic and art form investigations underway.
