On Holding is a group show rooted in and looping around language.
About
In a once-upon-a-time county courthouse in Kennington, London, five artists conspire to tell a multi-layered tale. In this story (a mystery) there is no linear narrative, only a series of plots. Caught in the loops of language and time, plots can thicken or dissolve. The intervention of Covid-19 adds an extra twist. Things are put on hold. Nothing is as the artists planned or imagined. They question themselves, asking each other: as artists and as occupants of this space, what are we to make of it? What does it mean to be caught in a court which isn’t?
This complexity has no beginning, no middle, no end. Each artist, in their own way, creates a holding space for what has been uncovered.
The plot is the story and this is an exhibition of plots.
