About

Doors Showcase is pleased to present PANIC, a solo exhibition by Olivia Croce. The show PANIC explores the awkward and complex relationship between art and its viewer. In the gallery, the viewers are confronted with a site-specific installation of seductively glossy, large black ceramic shark fins arranged on the floor whilst a diving board protrudes from the wall. The implied unsettling danger in the juxtaposition of the objects, with the board fixed high up on the wall, is inaccessible to the spectators and thus the audience remain in the waters. In this seemingly odd setup, Croce invites and entices the spectators with a promise of playful engagement. The drawing-paintings and photographs accompanying the installation narrate the artist's panic-driven imaginations, creating a dialogue within the element of fear of the main work, yet bearing humorous, witty observations on everyday life, offering insightful commentary on the absurdities of human and abstract-object relationships. Olivia Croce was born in Devon, lives and works in Bristol. Croce undertook BA and MA at La Villa Arson, Nice, France, completing her Post MA studies in Geneva, Switzerland. She has presented her works in numerous group shows in London, Nice, Berlin and Geneva. The exhibition opens at Doors showcase on 06 April, continues until 12 May 2012.
