About

These photos are the first Wasow has done that have included people. “These pictures are both romantic and sincere, though not necessarily comfortably so,” Wasow says. “The personality of these pictures is located as much in the backgrounds as in the people. Ideally these two things complement each other.”

Wasow has had a number of one person exhibitions, including shows at the Josh Baer Gallery and Janet Borden Gallery in New York City, Tom Solomon Gallery in Los Angeles, The South Eastern Center for Contemporary Art in North Carolina, and Galerie De Poche in Paris. His work has been included in benchmark exhibitions such as Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art,Image World, at the Whitney Museum of Art, and The Photography of Invention, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He is the recipient of grants and awards including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant in 1999 and, in 2000, his second New York State Council on the Arts Grant. He was one of the organizers of the Center’s acclaimed exhibition Artist Unknown/The Free World.

Oliver Wasow lives and works in Rhinebeck, NY. He received his BA from Hunter College and his Master’s Degree from the Transart Institute. He is represented by Theodore: Art Gallery in NYC.
