Everything’s coming together while everything’s falling apart: Venice Climate Camp was produced in conjunction with the Venice Climate Camp in September 2019, organized by the No Grandi Navi (Eng. No big ships) committee together with Fridays for Future and numerous activists from across Europe. Starting from the camp on the Lido, 300 climate activists invaded the grounds of the 76th Venice International Film Festival and occupied the red carpet for over nine hours. The presence of the international press on the day of the award ceremony was used to draw media attention to the concerns of the climate movement. Although the blockade was not directed against the festival itself, the activists sharply criticized the fact that the international media attention was not used during the film festival to also raise awareness for climate justice.
